Buying a Genuine (Not Faux) Leather Jacket For Christmas
Christmas time is when many guys decide to buy their wife or girlfriend a nice new leather jacket. However it's also around the holidays when the stores are flooded with cheap knockoff faux leather jackets.
How can you tell if what your looking at is a genuine leather jacket or a faux leather jacket? First look at the tag. If it's made of real leather it will say "genuine leather" on the tag or on a label somewhere.
Beware of names like "man made leather" "synthetic leather" "leather-like" or even "designer leather". They all mean the same thing, it's a faux leather jacket!
Faux leather jackets often have a shine to it that normal leather does not. It should be very soft like butter, not stiff and crinkly. Faux leather also is often very thin, which is why they are so cold to wear!
Genuine leather jackets are soft, feel thick and are very warm. They can come with a zip out liner or thick faux fur inside. Shearling leather jackets are made from sheep wool and are the warmest of all leather jackets.
Genuine leather jackets will always show a leather grain pattern on it. However many faux leather jackets are stamped with a machine to give it a grain pattern also.
One more way to tell if it's a genuine leather jacket is the smell. A quality leather jacket will have a deep, mild leather odor. Faux leather jackets will smell strong, have no odor or have a rubber smell to it.
Shopping at a quality leather store is the best way to avoid getting a faux leather jacket. You will find no faux leather jackets inside a good leather jacket store.
Once you buy that genuine leather jacket for your girl keep it in a dry, cool place with no plastic over it. A genuine leather jacket for a gift will make your lady love you even more!
