Being a raw vegan, we seem to always get asked the same questions about our diet. Most people seem to think all we eat is salads. Next time someone asks me what I eat, I'm going to just tell them to go to Raw Aura!

Raw Aura is a raw food restaurant in Port Credit (Mississauga) about a thirty minute drive from downtown Toronto. The head chef there, Doug McNish, has been one of my favorite people to watch in his promotion of high quality foods. When I was lucky enough to get a special invitation to a Thank You gathering being held at the restaurant we were greeted at the entrance by this sign:

I'm not a big fan of eating out because I'm usually wary of additives and freshness of the food being served. However, I knew that this was one place where I could go and savour the foods completely, because they were prepared as nature intended them to be served.

Be prepared when you come to this restaurant to experience an orchestra in your mouth! The flavours and spices have been combined so well, that the tastes are ones you cannot forget. I can still taste the red beet ravioli stuffed with creamy cashew ricotta cheese right now...

I ended up going with Shredded Heaven for my main dish:

Talk about fresh?! The Chinese five spice carrot coconut ginger dressing kicked up the greens, mushrooms and shredded veggies in the salad. It's so refreshing and filling that even with a small bowl, I had at least half of it to take home.

Last but not least, the dessert plate:

WOW. Banana chocolate cake without having touched an oven. A berry cheesecake, no heating required in the making. If you've never tried a raw dessert, you'll notice that the flavours of the ingredients seem more pungent, stronger. Your tastebuds will thank you.
