Fifty Cent Stamp in the Works?

Okay, maybe the image was a bit misleading...

Faced once again with budget shortfalls, the U.S. Postal Service is, once again, mulling over a rate hike. This time around, the price of a single first class postal stamp may reach as high as half a buck — an 11% spike.

The USPS lost $3.3 Billion last quarter alone, and says they stand to lose $18.5 Billion a year by 2015, as the money coming in still has failed to cover the expenses involved with its employee base, as well as its vast fleet of planes, trucks and automobiles.

Even Saturday delivery may get axed, leaving us with more time to watch TV and grill burgers, rather than trek to the neighborhood mailbox unit.

After all, when you deliver 40% of the world's mail, you have to have a lot of wheels and wings. Calling the USPS the cheapest method in the world to deliver paper-based mail, the U.S. Postmaster General said its services were "clearly underpriced."

With email clearly the preferred method of sending one's sentiments to others, perhaps the U.S. Postal Service can get a hip-hop reboot of its stamp collection, by taking the rate hike tongue-in-cheek. Why not approach 50 Cent himself, and run a line of stamps bearing his smile and off-kilter baseball cap?

Seems like a marriage made in Heaven, as his fans and haters alike can purchase books of "forever stamps" with the smiling mug of the megastar... Nothing beats bad news peppered with a little fun!

Go on, USPS, get your back into it!
