Find Your Way Back to Good Health - Page 2
Warning: I’m about to get sarcastic
In terms of convenience, I can tell you that there are plenty of ways to feed your family healthy foods in a time crunch. There is this crazy cold box called a freezer and these contraptions called jars…apparently you can put homemade soups and sauces and other foods into these jars and the freezer will keep them cold and fresh so you can use them at a later date. Incredible! There are also things called slow cookers and rice cookers, and storage containers…it is just amazing what they’ve come up with these days…wait, what do you mean they have been around for decades?
It can be done.
I can tell you from the perspective of a busy working mom who has busy kids, a busy husband, and a busy household to run: it can be done. By taking one afternoon just one day a week to prepare foods, I can have soups, sauces, homemade salad dressings, smoothies, homemade ice pops, batches of whole grains, etc. made, portioned off, and ready to go for the entire week. I know that means you have to plan (gasp), but it is worth it because it makes preparing daily meals much easier and much faster. Trust me, if I can do it, you can do it. I even get the kids to help…even my preschooler if you can believe that.
Indeed, times are a-changing. Now they are a-changing back to the way it was before the days of epidemic rates of obesity, diabetes, fatty liver disease, depression, and cancer. Americans are starting to realize what many cultures in the rest of the world (who do not have the high rates of health concerns we have here) have known for thousands of years: food is medicine. This is not new information to us either: our grandparents and great grandparents knew it well…but times a-changed and we got a little lost. Plus we got a bit distracted by the flashy advertisements and other marketing efforts from the processed food and pharmaceutical industries. But now it’s time for us to find our way back.
It all starts by eating REAL FOOD.
