Haiti - The Aftermath. Is the Situation Improving?
It's been over a year now, with millions of humanitarian aid sent to Haiti in order to help the impoverished country to recover, and to make Haitian's lives easier. Is that really happening? Recently a shocking CNN report was aired, showing the lack of improvement. Proper nutrition and shelter are sorely still inadequate. Was millions of dollars in recovery money sent, or was it just pledges?
Well, with just three percent of Haiti cleared of rubble, it's obvious that not much has improved. Where did all the money go? After all the promises and astronomical amounts of donations sent, 97 percent of Haiti is still under rubble?!
Many Haitians are trying to rebuild themselves, but obviously don't have the necessary means to do it. This is disgraceful, absolutely shameful. Where is the United Nations, where is Unicef - where on earth are they? All those promises and donations have gone down the drain as people are still suffering in Haiti. The country is still under rubble and in a huge humanitarian crisis. Were the pledges and promises just political stunts?! It certainly looks like it, with the shocking numbers and stats one year later. I love politics and I love talking about it, but not when it gets involved in this inhumane manner, absolutely disgraceful.
I know many people are focusing most of their attention on the uprisings in the Middle East, but we must not forget about Haiti and the people who are still suffering, and need our help. Haiti will always be in our hearts, and we've let them down, just like with many others.... I'm ashamed, this is an absolute disgrace.
