The economy is screwed and the U.S. is on the brink of economic annihilation, there are techie activists trying to change the world one protest at a time, the rich are getting richer, poorer getting poorer… To add to all of the drama, Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream has come up with a new flavor called “Schweddy Balls.”

Oh no, it’s the end of the world!

Just kidding.

The ice cream flavor is derived from the hilarious 1998 Saturday Night Life sketch. The sketch featured Alec Baldwin, Molly Shannon and Ana Gasteyer.

In the skit, Baldwin played Pete Schweddy who is a baker with some rather interesting holiday treats. No one can resist his Schweddy balls.

The alliance known as One Million Moms, an organization affiliated with the American Family Association has fired back at Ben & Jerry’s for the supposed sexual implication of the ice cream flavor.

The alliance said on its website: “The vulgar new flavor has turned something as innocent as ice cream into something repulsive. Not exactly what you want a child asking for at the supermarket.”

Ben & Jerry’s ice cream has been under fire in the past for its “offensive” ice cream flavors. The “Schweddy Balls” flavor consists of vanilla ice cream with a hint of rum, fudge covered rum and milk chocolate malt balls.

The company has been known for having fun with the naming of its flavors and having a sense of humor at times like these is vital. I might add, it is also a good cornerstone for any business.

Everywhere one goes, you see a tension in the air that you can cut through. What’s wrong with a few laughs? The larger majority of the consumer buying public will not even be fazed by this creative naming for an ice cream flavor.
