Is Lam Leaving Tod's?
According to WWD, Derek Lam has left Tod’s, where he worked as creative director since 2006. The news broke the web this morning, but neither Lam nor Tod’s could be reached to confirm or deny the story.
The New York based designer launched his eponymous line in 2002 after working for Michael Kors, but with a discouraging slow start, as his debut collection failed to find any buyers. Although, 2003 became his year, getting the attention of the fashion industry when US Vogue reported that Lam “caused a sensation” at New York Fashion Week. His success continued to grow as he was not only nominated but actually won the CFDA Swarovski Perry Ellis Award for Womenswear the next year, before becoming a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist later that same year. After a capsule collection for Tod's in 2005, he became the official creative director, attracting A-Listers as Gwyneth Paltrow and Anne Hathaway to model for the brand, in some very publicized ad campaigns.
