I’m not afraid to admit that I’m not that much of a morning person. I mean, there are a lot of reasons why I need to be an early riser, but if I was given the choice – it wouldn’t happen. I wouldn’t be aware of the existence of such a thing as 5:30AM. If I’m up, I might not be the conversationalist that I’m known for being.

However, we all have our exceptions to the rule.

When you’re trying to work around the schedules of your day job and that of Kristi Yamaguchi’s – Uh, I’d have to say this was one of those exceptions to the rule.

So, it was 5:30 for me here on the West Coast and it was 8:30 for Kristi who was in New York. I had the opportunity to talk with her on the phone while she was preparing for a new venture that we were going to discuss.

I can’t tell you how incredibly passionate Kristi was – there are many things that are dear to her, and all the while she still manages to be cool and down to earth.

I kept forgetting that I was talking to the 1992 Olympic Gold Medalist figure skater, that’s just how pleasant she was.

Kristi was busy prepping for her new venture at Fashion Night Out – the launch of her new clothing line.

“Lord and Taylor is launching it – we’re very excited. It’s called Tsu.ya.” Kristi said. “It’s more of a fashion style active wear. We kind of wanted something that was more fun, more detailed, more feminine, and more fashion oriented than your average active wear line.”

The hope that Kristi has is that eventually Tsu.ya will become a lifestyles brand.

“It’s all about being comfortable and functional – feeling put together, feeling like you have an outfit on, and feeling like you’re presentable enough to go on with the rest of your day even post workout.”

Aside from Tsu.ya, there is a cause that Kristi holds dear to her heart.

“I dedicate a lot of time to the Always Dream Foundation. In fact, a portion of the proceeds from Tsu.ya will go to Always Dream.”

The name “Always Dream” has always served as a personal motto and inspiration for Kristi. The primary purpose is to inspire and embrace the hopes and dreams of children.
