For some dieters, or would-be dieters, the problem is simply how to combine appropriate ingredients to produce acceptable meals. Oh, everyone (almost) knows what they should and should not eat, but there’s more to dieting than intellectual knowledge.

In Just Tell Me What to Eat!: The Delicious 6-Week Weight Loss Plan for the Real World, Dr. Timothy S. Harlan prescribes exactly what to eat for dinner through a six-week period, and follows it up with two weeks’ worth of desserts and additional meal ideas. Menus are provided for every dish prescribed.

If you’re fussy (like me) there may be things you just don’t eat (salmon, red beans, collard greens, dirty rice—or dirty anything), and Dr. Harlan attends to your needs with suggestions for convenience food (frozen entrees) and restaurant/fast food alternatives. (If you’re lazy—like me—you’re probably waiting for the “Just Serve Me What I Should Eat” diet, in which someone else makes the decisions, does the shopping, prepares the meals, and cleans up afterwards.)

Dr. Harlan not only tells you what to eat, but also why to eat it. Just Tell Me What to Eat! is filled with useful tips to help dieters stay on track, and offers advice on snacks (do’s and don’ts), food preparation, maintaining focus, exercise, and other pertinent topics.

What we really want to know about any diet, before embarking on it, is what kind of food can I eat? Amazingly, some very popular dishes often thought to be off-limits for dieters are included: pizza, cheese steak, sloppy joes, spaghetti, ziti, crème brulee (!), fried chicken. With choices like these, dieting is suddenly more appealing.

For compulsive calorie-counters and nutritionwise eaters, complete nutrition information is included with each recipe—so important for those of us who want to eat more meals than just dinner. Dr. Harlan also supplies an easy-to-use BMI (Body Mass Index) table that eliminates the need to memorize a clunky formula.

It’s usually pretty obvious what you shouldn’t eat if you want to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight, but it’s not always easy to determine what you can eat. Just Tell Me What to Eat! solves that probably with advice on exactly what you should  eat.
