Money and ScientologyA St. Petersburg Times investigation offers new insight into the Church of Scientology from former “registrar” Hy Levy. Required to bring in $200,000 in sales each week, Hy Levy suffered through verbal abuse, intimidation and threats from his bosses for 16 years. By the description of his work environment, Hy Law was nothing more than a car salesman, but selling lemons.

This investigation shows that the “church” is an insatiable money machine. The report alleges that the church used coercion and detained sales prospects with physical force. The report alleges that Scientology staff members stole money from members bank accounts. The report alleges that supervisors used hidden microphones to listen in on conversations. The report alleges that church workers would take every last dime of parishioners. The report alleges that many members go bankrupt after going into debt to pay the Church of Scientology.

After 16 years, Mr. Levy claims to have brought in close to $200 million for the Church of Scientology. When he left, his severance pay was $500.

This all reminds me of something I once read elsewhere:

In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

Overall, this investigation is a must read for anyone interested in the inner-workings of Scientology.
