Your skin is an incredible living organ that plays a crucial part in keeping you strong and healthy as well as protecting you from daily assaults.  Every day your skin battles toxins and UV damage from the sun which trigger inflammation within your body.  Inflammation damages your cells causing or exacerbating skin conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, rashes, sunburn, wrinkles, and dryness.

Your skin cells are surrounded by a protective fatty bubble.  This layer of fat helps to keep your skin elastic, waterproof, and prevents the spread of rashes and infection.  Omega 3 essential fatty acids nourish and strengthen this wonderful bubble of protection and act as an anti-inflammatory.  Fish oil, flaxseed oil, krill oil, nuts, and seeds are all great sources of the essential fatty acid, omega 3.

Omega 3's help to calm acne and irritated skin conditions.  Essential fatty acids fight the inflammation that comes along with these conditions.  Omega 3s have also been shown to decrease a hormone that is linked to an increase in oil production and clogged pores.  Slowing down your oil production will help keep your pores from getting clogged with dead skin and bacteria.

Fish oil is also rich in a substance called DHA (docosahexaenic acid) that has been shown to be helpful for those suffering with eczema.  The British Journal of Dermatology published a study revealing that when subjects who suffer with this skin condition took DHA daily showed a significant improvement in their skin after just 8 weeks.

Omega 3s also help your skin fight the inflammatory damage that causes dry skin and wrinkles.  If you don’t eat enough healthy fats to keep your cell’s fatty bubble strong and supple then the moisture in that protective layer will evaporate leaving your skin dry and far less elastic.  Omega 3s can dramatically improve your skin’s elasticity and keep your cell’s “bubble wrap” moist and healthy.  You can reduce wrinkles and give your skin its bounce back by consuming these important essential fatty acids regularly.

Omega 3s play a key role in keeping your cells strong and in great shape.  They provide nourishment and fight inflammation promoting healthier, softer, firmer, and more beautiful skin.  Your skin is the largest organ in your body and is a vital player in your health.  Fight destructive inflammation by adding omega 3s to your diet and help maintain the health of your skin.
