Pope Renews Church's Friendship With Artists
Around 250 artists from different countries across the world gathered in the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City to meet Pope Benedict XVI. The theme was to "renew the Church’s friendship with the world of art." Pope Benedict met artists from around the world in the Sistine Chapel on Saturday and urged them to inject spirituality into their work, saying contemporary beauty was often "illusory and deceitful."
Out of 500 invited artists including painters, sculptors, architects, poets and directors, more than half turned up to attend. The Pope warmly interacted with the artists and spoke that beauty, art, and the path to God are very close to each other. And who better than world renowned artists, standing under Michelangelo's famous creation, to understand that better than anybody else?
