What can you do to help? That’s the age-old question when it comes to any campaign like this one. First and foremost, you can join in the Books Make It Better campaign by joining in the virtual book drive. You can read about that on Educate My Alabama at Books Make It Better. If you want to organize your own drive, the information is there to do that as well. And, you can always donate gently used books to Reach Out and Read. If you are interested in reading more about our local drive, you can read about my effort to provide books for the Birmingham YWCA in an effort we are labeling a “Re-Book”.

In the meantime, I’m going to head off to Washington DC to meet with the Department of Education regarding more ways to encourage Family Engagement. If you have questions or comments that you would like for me to submit during this time, please send those my way, I’m open to make this discussion as beneficial for you as for anyone. You can read about one of the National PTA’s programs here as well at National PTA: Three for Me. And, finally, I’m also going to be attending the ESEA Hearings in Washington DC on November 8th. I won’t have an opportunity to speak at these hearings but I will be attending with others who will. Please do your part and get involved in your local events for Reach Out and Read as well as my current campaign known as Books Make It Better.
