This 20-meter or 66-foot tall fiberglass Santa has been a grand festive decoration in Auckland, New Zealand since 1960. In the last few years the need of a facelift has been prominently visible so that his aging face does not scare children.

An amount of NZ $100,000 is being spent for the facelift. The face remains bandaged till Sunday when the renovated tall Santa will be unveiled. The complete operation has taken more than four months for completion.

It is the local administration and New Zealand government who took this daring decision of investing such a whopping amount. After all, it is the call of the occasion since Christmas is nearing.

The motive behind the decision is to cheer up the city as the huge figure of Santa is standing tall in the heart of the city at a central place and it would not be taken as a "good fortune" symbol if the statue is tainted. The government would have definitely got pressurized from local public and certain welfare organizations. Now the questions arises: why would the local welfare organizations step in if the Santa was not updated? Simply because the local welfare organizations can survive and get support of local public if they keep supporting the genuine public causes.
