Self Help Guru James Arthur Ray Charged in Sedona Deaths
The Associated Press is reporting that self help "guru" James Arthur Ray has been charged with three counts of manslaughter for the deaths of three of his followers during the sweat lodge (gone very, very wrong) at a Spiritual Warrior retreat he held in Sedona last October.
The Oprah endorsed guru — from his role in The Secret phenomenon — Ray charged $9,000 per person to attend this retreat. It was during the improperly run sweat lodge, the final event of the 5-day retreat, that his followers became extremely ill, vomiting and fainting. He urged his followers to "push past" their physical "discomfort," which resulted in 3 deaths and 18 hospitalizations.
Ray was arrested at his attorney's office on Wednesday afternoon and is being held on a $5 million dollar bond.
