Suicide Prevention - Save a Life
I was screwing around on Facebook today and this status made me think:
"The girl you just called fat? She has been starving herself & has lost over 30lbs. The boy you just called stupid? He has a learning disability & studies over four hours a night. The girl you just called ugly? She spends hours putting makeup on hoping people will like her. The boy you just tripped? He is abused enough at home. There's a lot more to people than you think. Put this as your status if you're against bullying."
I usually don't get personal when it comes to these chain statuses. However, here's one that spoke to me. I was teased as a kid because I was a chubby, dorky looking kid - think the girl in "Little Miss Sunshine." My freshman year of college, I had a horrible reaction to gluten, which I was inadvertently exposed to causing my deliac disease to flair up noticeably. I gained about thirty pounds, I had moderately bad acne that left some scarring, and a horrendous skin reaction on both legs that made me self conscious for a long time.
So, while it's hard, think about the other person. I've been guilty of being quick to judge and selfish many times, as we all probably have. However, we do need to put ourselves in their shoes. Sometimes that's the only way you can't hate them.
1) The crazy-ex girlfriend saw her own father die and had Depression that was untreated for nearly four years that hurt every relationship that she's ever had.
2) The girl you just left after having sex with, fooling her into thinking you really like her, is suicidal and what you just did is nearly the same as holding a bullet to her head. While a friend luckily intervenes, that could have been blood on your hands.Continued on the next page
