Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher Appreciation Week was last week, and I went the entire week without hearing one negative ninny bash teachers. Of course, that also meant I didn't listen to the news much this past week either.

As far as Teacher Appreciation Weeks go, mine went fairly well. Our principal, parents and community did a few things for us… free breakfast goodies, free ice cream and free t-shirts. The week even ended on a good, fattening note when our lunch was extended from 25 minutes to 40 minutes, and chicken fried steak was catered in from a nearby southern cooking restaurant.

Even all the kiddos who usually are good most of the time seemed to be extra polite during Teacher Appreciation Week. When you teach high school, you don't get many of those nifty gifts the elementary school teachers get, but that's OK. The best teacher appreciation gifts come when you hear about the successes of former students.

So, if you let Teacher Appreciation Week slide by unnoticed, pop off a short email to one of your former teachers and let them know how you're doing.
