Two Students Shot in Los Angeles Area School
Two students were shot at Gardena High School, which is located in Los Angeles County. The school immediately was ordered on lockdown, while the suspect was apprehended. All students involved were 10th graders, with the two victims 15 years old. One of the victims, a girl, suffered a serious head wound, while a male victim was grazed by a bullet, which struck his neck.
According to Los Angeles police, the shooting was accidental, and caused when the gun, which was being carried in the student’s backpack, was slammed down on his desk and subsequently discharged.
The male student has been taken into custody, while the two victims were transported to local hospitals. KTLA-TV reports that Gardena High School does not have walk-through metal detectors but uses hand-held detectors instead.
