With weather patterns growing more and more unpredictable lately, there is one other bit of unpredictability that has homeowners on notice — pest control.

With an unseasonably warm spring, homeowners are seeing early signs of ants, spiders and other creepy crawlers around their homes, according to various reports.

In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Missy Henriksen of the National Pest Management Association in Fairfax, Va., discussed how Mother Nature is setting a different timetable these days.

"It's kind of like Mother Nature's alarm clock has been set early for bugs," Henriksen told the Tribune.

With the United States experiencing the fourth warmest winter on record, top scientists are also throwing out warnings to homeowners.

While ants are a problem for residents in North Carolina, bees have become a nuisance for residents in California and Nevada. There have even been reports of bees trapping people in their homes and cars.

Fewer hard freezes this winter played a role in the early coming out party. Queens in ant and stinging-insect colonies that might have died in colder months survived and kept the groups growing, the Tribune reported. In some parts of the country, termite colonies have been spotted as early as February, Henriksen told the paper.

According to a recent study, ant infestations are on the rise across the country. The study, which surveyed U.S. pest professionals, found that 100 percent of respondents treated ant infestations in 2011, and that the most prevalent species found were carpenter ants, odorous house ants and pavement ants.

Regardless of the early arrival of those little pests and the rise of infestations across the country, homeowners should contact their local pest control management company and see assistance sooner rather than later.
