When you step out of your bed in the morning the last thing you expect is to be under attack throughout your entire day. But, guess what? You and your cells are under attack by free radicals day in and day out.

Free radicals are unstable molecules that cause a chain reaction within your body, resulting in cell damage and DNA mutation. If left alone to do their damage, free radicals will wreak havoc on your cells causing age spots, wrinkles, sagging, and more. They are a major contributor to aging in the skin.

You are exposed to free radicals from the sun, pollution, toxins, smoke, stress, as well as a poor diet. There really is no escape from these destructive molecules. The good news, however, is that you can do something about them and protect yourself from their path of destruction.

Antioxidants, taken both internally and externally, have the ability to neutralize free radicals and stop them in their tracks. You can perform pure magic by eating a diet rich in antioxidants and using skin care products that contain antioxidants.

Foods, such as mangosteen, tomatoes, red peppers, strawberries, nuts, seeds, eggs, and green leafy vegetables protect your cells from the ravages of free radicals. Astazanthin, found in krill oil, is another powerful antioxidant that helps prevent UV sun damage. It has been shown that individuals who have a diet rich in Astazanthin can spend more time in the sun without burning.

You can also help protect your skin by using skin care products that contain antioxidants. Look for ingredients such as pomegranate, green tea, and vitamin C. Topical antioxidants help prevent cellular damage but unfortunately aren’t able to penetrate deep enough to supply the greatest protection making it necessary to feed your skin from the inside as well as from the outside.

A combination of an antioxidant rich diet along with topical antioxidants will help prevent free radicals from damaging your cells and will encourage more beautiful skin. By making an effort to include more antioxidant rich foods in your diet and applying topical antioxidant to the surface of your skin you will be one step ahead of those pesky free radicals.
