Why Worry About Things We Have No Control Over?
What are we supposed to do when there's really nothing to do about something? Sounds like an easy question, but the truth is, people get troubled about things they have no control over.
In the face of the unknown, our level of anxiety gets high. That got me thinking how vulnerable we are, and how much we need to feel we’ve got some sort of control over life’s events.
It’s deeply human to worry, and, no matter what our beliefs are, whenever we feel we’re losing control of our lives and destiny, we’re going to look for some kind of reassurance that everything will be alright eventually. My guess is we cannot stand not knowing. Whether good or bad, we just HAVE to know.
And the search for alternative answers may calm our anxieties for a moment, but they’ll always get back to us, because in life nothing can be assured. We might have plans, but no one knows how it’s going to end up. A number of variables we do not have control over may always come up, and there’s nothing we can do about it, but to accept uncertainty as part of living.
