Fashion Designer Jeremy Scott Takes Wing at LA Auto Show
(Los Angeles, November 30, 2012) Move over Lady Gaga, Jeremy Scott has a new fashion favorite, and she is on display at the LA Auto Show this week. The one-of-a-kind concept car entitled, Smart for Jeremy, is ice white with shiny chrome accents, propeller-inspired wheels and dramatic red-tipped transparent white wings sprouting from the back that also serve as lights.
Jeremy talks about his design, "For me, wings mean freedom, a sense of weightlessness. Because of this, I definitely wanted to have them for the smart electric drive in order to convey the way it frees the environment of noxious emissions and symbolizes the new lightness of mobility."
The car was developed over a period of eight months between Jeremy Scott and the designers of the smart Design Division at the Mercedes-Benz Cars Advanced Design Studios in Carlsbad, California. A variation of the car will be available in limited edition in 2013.
The Smart for Jeremy is based on the current production version of the smart fortwo electric drive. With its 55 kW electric motor, the smart fortwo electric drive accelerates from 0-60 mph in 11.5 seconds and has a maximum speed of 78 mph. The 17.6 kWh lithium-ion battery enables the urban two-seater to achieve 122 city miles per gallon gasoline equivalent (MPGe) without any local emissions. The EPA tested range for the electric drive is 75 miles in city or 90 miles combined.
Note: The new generation electric drive will arrive in the U.S. in the spring of 2013, so some of these specs may change as we approach the release date.
