Chocoholic Melanie Milburn, Director of New Horizons Preschool (Durango, CO), loves one thing more than chocolate—kids. Her book, I Love You More than Chocolate, is a love song to preschoolers—literally. Milburn’s book is based on a song she wrote for her young daughter.

Illustrated by Cindy Coleman on scrapbooking paper, I Love You More than Chocolate reminds us of a scrapbook we might create with or for a favorite child. The hardcover book includes a CD with which children can “read along,” featuring Milburn narrating the opening and closing of the story and singing I Love You More than Chocolate.

Beginning with a child being tucked into bed and asking her mother how much she is loved, I Love You More than Chocolate is a litany of the things Mom loves, but none as much as her darling girl:

“I love you more than apple pie.
I love you more than the clear blue sky.
I love you more than butterflies.
I love you more than chocolate…
I love you more than a day at a zoo.
I love you no matter what you do.
I love you more than chocolate…”

With easy to learn rhymes, I Love You More than Chocolate will appeal to young children who will be singing (and “reading”) along quickly. Its comforting message makes it an ideal bedtime storybook.
