KidTunes: Dreamland Lullaballads - Dina Layzis
Dreamland Lullaballads combines the delicate, dreamy voice of Dina Layzis with the comforting words and music of Theresa San Luis to produce sleepytime songs that are reminiscent of medieval ballads. This unique album represents the collaboration of two artists who have never met in person.
Dina Layzis is a singer/songwriter/pharmacist born in the Ukraine and living in New Jersey; Theresa San Luis is a songwriter/composer based in St. Louis. Together they created “a hybrid genre blending mellifluous melodies, inspiring lyric, and Layzis’ ethereal voice.” The hybrid lullabies/ballads are quite different from most of the independent kids’ music being produced. Meeting on Bandmix.com, the two women exchanged MP3 files, thereby creating the eleven songs on the album. Their long distance relationship was joined by their musical arranger, mastering engineer, and illustrator—all working in different parts of the world.
Many of the songs on Dreamland Lullaballads sound like a soundtrack for a fairy tale. They conjure up fairies, elves, trolls, magic, amazing landscapes, and starry skies. Other songs are affirmations and reassuring pledges of love. A 16-page, illustrated booklet accompanies the CD and contains the words to all the songs, an introduction to Dreamland, and photographs of the artists. The album is also available as an MP3 download.
While we love to rock the kids and get them up and moving, there are times that we just need to rock them to sleep. Dreamland Lullaballads is for those times.
