There’s a new music label--myKaZoo Music-- and its premiere release is Nature Jams by Farmer Jason and Buddies, a collection of kidsongs that encourages children to get outside and discover what nature has to offer. The CD is accompanied by a bonus DVD with four videos.

With songs about bayous, whales, glaciers, manatees, birds, moose, canoes, buffalos, caves, and the woods, Nature Jams celebrates the natural world. The songs are lively rock, country, blue grass, polka, and zydeco invitations to explore and experience the great outdoors (once parents and caregivers grant permission). On days that are too yucky to go out exploring, the music is an irresistible invitation to get up and move or break out the old kazoo and play along. Farmer Jason and one of his buddies introduces each song with a brief conversation describing the subject of the song.

Farmer Jason enlisted an impressive list of buddies to help him out on Nature Jams: Tommy Ramone, Steve Gorman (The Black Crowes), Mike Mills (R.E.M.), Tom Petersson (Cheap Trick), Iris DeMent, Brandi Carlile, Vic Wooten, Todd Snider, Alison Brown, Terrance Simien, Suzy Boguss, The Saw Doctors, Webb Wilder, Hank Williams III, novelist Jo Nesbø, Ruthie Foster, and Farmer Jason’s “grown-up band,” Jason and the Scorchers.

Friends, I have to admit that I learned something from Farmer Jason. I never thought anything could be too corny for me, but Farmer J. is cornier than hush puppies, corn pone, and hominy combined. His narration/conversations were a little over the top for me, which means that kids will enjoy him immensely. He is enthusiastic, cheerful, and even a little goofy--all great qualities for entertaining children. Nature Jams will be released February 7, 2012.
