Technology Has Gone Mad - Let the Kids Outside!
Sometimes I try and remember what I did prior to technology. Prior to cell phones. I have no idea how wives survived not knowing what their husbands were up to, or if we managed to get in to work safely.
But, what did we do before Facebook? What did we do before Twitter?
MySpace, you say?
I remember talking to people, just, giving someone a call with a phone that had a cord connected to a box. I remember organizing days before to meet at a certain point at a certain time and it would somehow magically happen.
I worry sometimes about being an over computerized society. Didn't we learn anything from the Terminator movies? :-)
I am most worried for the unknown: about how my boy is going to grow up with technology. Will he become engrossed in video games? Will he be glued to a computer? Will he be cyber bullied? Will HE be the bully?
Overall, I just want him to sometimes step outside and shoot some hoops, or smash a cricket ball over the neighbor's fence. Whack a tennis ball back forth or go hiking. Things I did growing up. I really hope he does. I am sure he will if I have something to say about it!
But has technology gone mad? There's no stopping it! I'd rather see millions spent on improvements in science than millions spent on the latest social media marketing campaign.
Saying that, I'm a dad blogger that is often on the computer writing about life as a dad, life as a parent, using Facebook and Twitter daily. So is it therefore being hypocritical to point the finger via a computer at society being technophiles to the extreme? Probably.. This is why technology is slowly starting to annoy me. We use it too much and we loose sight that we don't realize it!
But hopefully someone reading this on their own computer will perhaps turn off their phone, turn off their computers and go outdoors and not use technology for the next few hours.
