TeenLit: 97 Things to Do Before You Finish High School - Page 2
The last three chapters are on community and responsibility, and “Because You’re Only Young Once.” Projects that involve politics, social issues, and charity are offered for someone interested in improving and understanding the local community and/or the environment. Suggestions to open a savings account, get a driver’s license, learn CPR, and take care of a houseplant or pet are all “Because You Should.”
Teens who challenge themselves to be “a better person,” make a difference, or evolve will find plenty to work with in 97 Things to Do Before You Finish High School. While no one could achieve all 97, finding a few that get one away from the cell phone, computer, and video miasma, and start acceptable, positive new experiences will expand a kid’s worldview, increase self-esteem, encourage a variety of interests, and--perhaps--provide a little self-discovery.
Bottom Line: Would I buy 97 Things to Do Before You Finish High School? Yes, especially if I had a teenager who was perpetually bored or needed a little shove in the right direction (or any direction).
