Green Weddings
Summer will be upon us soon and any wedding planner will tell you that summer is the high season for weddings.
That's for obbious reasons. What bride wants to risk dragging her gown through a spring downpour, or mucking up her sparkling white gown in slushy snow? Besides, a sexy gown simply doesn't go well with wet and cold weather.
For this special occasion, consider making it eco-friendly.
So what does an earth-friendly wedding include?
First of all, for the ceremony, reception, or dinner, choose an eco-friendly location. Pick a hotel that uses earth-friendly practices, like only washing towels you leave in the bathtub rather than washing every single towel they provide to your room whether it's used or not. There are also hoteliers and caterers that use glass and porcelain rather than disposables.
As for the most memorable pieces of any wedding: the bridal gown and the wedding cake, the former can be selected from a green fashion designer that uses renewable green fabrics and the latter can be an organic cake.
Even favors can be ordered and made from sustainable sources.
For the honeymoon, visit a location that practices eco-tourism. Places like Australia's Daintree Eco Lodge and Spa, which won the 2009 World Travel Award for the title of "World's Leading Eco Lodge." Not only is this remarkable place a gem nestled in nature, it allows visitors to learn more about the local aboriginal culture, so tourists not only get to relax their minds and bodies, but they get to enrich their minds and experience as well.
Places like this are all over the world: Africa, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Ecuador, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Tibet, Pakistan, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and many more. You can literally pick a continent you wish to explore, and find eco-tourism there.
So, for those about to get hitched or know someone who is about the take the plunge, let supporting eco-friendly practices be a wonderful start to a lasting relationship. So that if, by any chance, the marriage doesn't work out, Mother Earth will still be there for you.
