What is Causing Ocean Life to Beach Itself in an Attempt to Breathe? - Page 2
That's a quick summation of what Jubilee is, and it is why areas once rich with life are in decline, and unless people stop eating, these problems will only continue to get worse, it seems.
The situation is so hopeless that Bjorn Lomborg, on page 201 of The Skeptical Environmentalist, says that, "In this respect, euthrophication [the depletion of oxygen in water] is the price we let some marine organisms pay for our success in feeding humanity, while maintaining large, forested habitats."
I think what he says is true and that trade-offs have to be made. The scales would be completely different if there were cute bunnies, bears and deer running from the woods to breathe. When something like this happens to animals in the water, it just doesn't seem to matter. Well that's not totally true; if it were dolphins dying, then it might get some attention too.
