Fall Color Tour: Seattle
As part of my fall color tour around the United States, I've shared some gems from my home state of Michigan - the perfect fall colors weekend in Traverse City, and a fall color weekend getaway to Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids.
Next up is one of my very favorite cities, Seattle. While there are plenty of great family-friendly things to do in all seasons in Seattle, it really shines in the fall. Nature is at its best - with the mountains, a mix of evergreen and deciduous trees, and outdoor adventures. The air just sparkles anticipation for fall and harvest activities, colors - and good food!
I asked Keryn Means, a Seattle travel writer, to chime in on this question:
Why is Seattle one of the best places in the US to see fall colors?
"Seattle is not just part of the "evergreen state;" it is filled with public parks and gardens that boast some of the most beautiful maples I've ever seen. We have a fondness for Japanese maples in particular. You can discover a brilliant orange maple as you turn down your friend's street, or a spectacular red feathered maple just waiting for you at the top of a hill in the local park. No matter what you used to think about Seattle, we are anything but just a green city."
Keryn also shares Seattle hotspots to explore fall colors in many different public gardens. The cultural mix of Seattle ensures that you explore Japanese (and other) Gardens to your heart's delight. It's a dream, finding so many special places in nature, in a city! As well, you'll find a plethora of activities, from corn mazes to pumpkin patch experiences to zoos and farms. There are so many Halloween and fall activities in Seattle - far more than one would expect.Continued on the next page
