A lot of Americans might ask me: Why Kiev? What is so great about it? Here are some interesting facts about this glorious city.
Kiev is the capital of the Ukraine which is one of the former Republics of the USSR. It is the largest city in the Ukraine (over 3 million people), and also one of the most beautiful ones, not only in Europe, but in the whole world.
Kiev is a very important cultural, industrial, educational and scientific center in Eastern Europe.
It is one of the most ancient cities in the world, and celebrated its 1,500 (!) year anniversary in 1982.

The capital of the Ukraine did not suffer as much damage as other cities of the former Soviet Union during World War II; therefore it preserved a lot of original historical and cultural places.
Just a few to mention: Kiev-Pechersk Lavra Monastery, golden-domed St. Sophia's Cathedral that is 950 years old and which includes a Bell Tower, a Cathedral and also the Residence of the Orthodox Metropolitan, and many more places to visit that will make your trip unforgettable.
