Timing is Right to Visit Paestum
With the dollar at a six-month high against the euro and a 12 percent dip on the cost of hotel rooms continent-wide, it's time to start planning European vacations again.
Italy would be a wise choice, with hotel accommodations being roughly 15 percent cheaper than they were in January of last year for trips to Milan. However, as experienced travelers will tell you, if prices are low in the north, prices in the south are sure to be even more enticing.
Another option is Naples and the Campagna region.
Naples has a lot to offer with must see tourist sites, including the Bourbon Palace at Caserta, the Isle of Capri, the Amalfi Coast and of course Vesuvio and the towns it made famous, Pompeii and Ercolano.
While these locations are well known, the Campagna region also boasts the best preserved Greek ruins anywhere on earth.
Located about 70 miles south of Naples at Paestum, this region is definitely worth a visit if you have an extra day in your itinerary. The spirit of these 2,600-year-old ruins come alive in photo. The museum on-site is inexpensive and worthy of its entry fee. However, travelers must see the ruins first because they close much earlier.
