Nathan began his career in the alcohol beverage industry at age twenty-one as the beer buyer at a wine and spirits shop in Boulder, Colorado. After several years spent cultivating an informal wine appreciation he firmly affixed his wine-related thinking cap and earned the first of his wine credentials, Certified Wine Educator (Society of Wine Educators) in 2003. The die was cast! Since then, Nathan has earned several other alcohol beverage industry certifications: Advanced Certificate in Wine & Spirits (WSET), Certified Sommelier (Court of Master Sommeliers) and Professional Certificate in Spirits (WSET) and French Wine Scholar (French Wine Society); he will begin pursuing the WSET Diploma Certification in 2012. In addition, Nathan has served as a wine judge for the Denver International Wine Competition several times and worked as an expert panelists for the Foster’s Wine Estates National Tour in 2006, and from 2009 to 2011 headed the WSET wine education program at Johnson & Wales University in Denver. Have wine bug, will travel! Since 2003 Nathan has visited Champagne, Burgundy, Northern Rhone, Provence, Piedmont, Mosel, Rheingau, Wurttemberg, Willamette Valley and most wine regions in California, South Australia, New Zealand, Chile and Argentina - his frequent flyer cards are on fire! After getting married in September 2004, Nathan and his wife spent over ten months living in Mendoza, Argentina and Santiago, Chile; Nathan worked sporadic stints as a cellar rat at a winery in Mendoza and headed wine education seminars for a South American wine travel company. Over Nathan’s 17-year career he has worked as a retail beer buyer, retail wine buyer, wine bar manager, wine educator and winery worker. In June 2010 Nathan earned the Professional Certificate in Instructional Design from Sessions.edu, and in August 2011 completed his Master’s Degree in Marketing from the University of Denver. When he’s not enjoying fine food and wine with his wife, Nathan can be found playing tennis, shredding on his Tom Anderson guitar, camping with his friends from high school and playing with his two pugs.
