Understanding Nutrition 12th Edition This book is o.k. but has way too much information for the average college student who just wants the bare basic facts to get through a writing assignment. It took longer to find the information I needed than it did to write the paper. I am glad that I chose the spiral format in that it is extremely easy to work with as opposed to the traditional bounded style book. For someone who plans on writing a lot of papers this book is a must. If you have to write papers in APA style I recommend just buying the software instead. For what it is, I am sure it is fabulous, but working full time and taking a masters program I don't have time to look up how to do all the notation, etc. Just buy the software program and it makes it much easier. If you're in a discipline and/or graduate program where APA is required, and the APA Manual is a must, I recommend finding & purchasing the spiral bound version of the Manual. It's a bit more expensive, but worth it. It's nice not having the text close just when I finally find how to cite a particular reference. Biological Psychology 10th Edition Very easy to find guidlelines for references and how to use them make this 5th edition a must for students and their tutors who are engaged in publishing research. Topical with the latest type of references from electronic sources covered. Easy to understand guidelines for writing includes common grammatical mistakes and how to rectify them. I've been meaning to purchase this book since its release in July 2009 but was very hesitant, fearing that I might receive the infamous "first printing laden with errors". However, I need this for school and placed my order on Jan 31, 2010. My copy arrived today and instead of "Second printing: August 2009", mine states: "Second printing: October 2009 Third printing: December 2009" on the copyright page. I called the APA Service Center and their representative said that all copies except for the first printing should be free of errors. He also said that they are probably on their 7th printing now (not sure how true this is). Nonetheless, I am glad that Amazon finally seems to be selling the corrected version. Textbooks for cheap I have not yet bought this edition, though I need to very soon. I know that there were numerous errors with the first printing of the sixth edition. I agree that it is inexcusable to have so many errors in a publication manual. However, I believe that the second printing is already available for purchase, with all of the corrections. I also got the following information from the APA website for those who already own the first printing: "Many people have found that the corrections supplement meets their needs; if you find, however, that it doesn't meet yours, we will provide you an exchange replacement copy of the second printing of the Publication Manual at no cost to you. (The second printing corrects all identified errors.) We are making this replacement process available to individuals and institutions who have purchased the manual. After responsibly removing the faulty first printing (or claiming to do so) Amazon was again selling the book as of mid December and included a disclaimer that these were ONLY the corrected second printing of the Sixth Edition. Ordered on 12/18, received on 12/22--the error laden first edition. That's right, the book they "supposedly" purged from their inventory arrived with me paying expedited shipping charges for the privilege. After a delightful call to outsourced customer service on the subcontinent, a return label was generated and a prorated (!) portion of my shipping will be refunded at a date TBD. Moral of the story: if you are also a detail-oriented graduate student it will behoove you to check what edition you are actually receiving once they ship this title again. Apparently Amazon cannot be taken at their word to deliver what they advertise. How sad that the APA cannot be troubled to proofread their own style manual. Epic Fail.
