Binder-full-Women Romney Is No Match For Fired Up Obama
Conservatives are sore losers; it was painful watching rightwing pundits twisting and turning in their seats while analyzing Tuesday night’s debate and giving their candidate a passing mark. You can read all about it if you are interested, however, the fact is that the President made the all-impressive corporate executive look silly and plain amature with sharp rebuttals—time and again, and it was evident to all neutral viewers. We, the progressives don’t mince words when our candidates lose, we say it boldly, just check my article on the 1st presidential debate!
A contrary view was expressed in Yahoo.com: “If President Barack Obama has another debate like the last one, the election’s over.” When the evening ended, I was struck by a different thought: If Obama had performed this way at the first debate, the election would have been over. The reporter went on to write, In every debate, whatever the format, whatever the questions, there is one and only one way to identify the winner: Who commands the room? Who drives the narrative? Who is in charge? More often than not on Tuesday night, I think, Obama had the better of it.
I take the preceding remarks as an opinion of a neutral observer, but I couldn’t differ more with the substance of the remarks. If elections are won over debate performances John Kerry would have been the 44th president. If anyone thinks that President Obama’s lackluster performance blew his national lead must think again—the post-debate period was synchronized with national TV ads and that did the magic. Koch brothers, Sheldon Adelson, Karl Rove et al saw an opportunity and poured money in TV ads like there is no tomorrow, and we saw the difference.
This is the first election after the Supreme Court’s Citizen United verdict and we are seeing the true havoc that big money can play. The Republicans have doubled down on the electoral fraud scheme in states after states, disfranchising minority, Latino and black voters. The have redoubled their efforts to purge genuine voters from the voter lists, and have also started filling air waves with plain lies. Unlimited money can buy elections—ordinary people need to be vigilant.
Last night President Obama proved once more he has not lost any of his debating skills, and he also established that even a master-of-the-game needs aggression and persistence to win it. We live in a rambo world!
