Chomsky: An Unsung Hero
It seems to me that a mind like Chomsky's ought to have a much larger pulpit. His insight and his ability to discuss American imperialism under the name of American exceptionalism, is a profound voice built on data and facts and knowledge that one has to dig through to find the kernels of truth he examines.
We believe so totally in our own righteousness that we can not conceive that torture and imperialism, and military assassinations are o.k. if they are done by the hand of the powerful. It is the kind of thinking that gave us the Spanish inquisition and the crusades. Chomsky reminds us that to call the murder of Bin Laden — Operation Geronimo and use Apache and Blackhawks weapons.
We believe in our right to murder---bring that home and we lose our society in which we learn to use restraint in dealing with other humans because we want restraint issued in our defense when the time comes.
Chomsky's historical perspective combined with an ethic that we no longer believe in (Truman), give us a perspective that is frightening, because his reflections show us not only our history, but a vision of our future.
Our economy and our ethics are moving in the direction of the banana republics that we so heroically saved from their own dictators to replace them with our own dictators....
Chomsky's is a voice like no other in our culture and I want to
suggest that we attempt to push his words further out into the mainstream...I want to hear his name on NPR and on ABC & NBC & CBS and MSNBC & CNN.......
Here his wisdom is preaching to the choir...those of us reading Truth out already agree with Noam. How can we come together in some fashion to have his voice witnessed in a larger venue.
