Congressmen Anthony Weiner to Resign
It has just been announced by CNN's Dana Bash that news sources inside Washington has just confirmed Rep. Anthony Weiner will resign at any time today.
Rep. Weiner photographs surfaced under fire for weeks over lewd photos. Sources reported to CNN that Rep. Weiner placed a phone call to Rep. Steve Israel and Rep. Nancy Pelosi yesterday evening that he did plan to resign. Details from the call was that Rep. Weiner was extremely remorseful and that he understood that his actions was a "distraction" to the Democratic Leadership in Congress.
"Representative Anthony D. Weiner has told friends he plans to resign his seat after coming under increasing pressure from Democratic colleagues in the House as a result of his salacious online communications with several women." New York Times Raymond Hernandez.
News broke in early June after Weiner, 46, sent a photograph of himself, in his underwear, over the social media sites, Twitter and Facebook. Thereafter, when questioned about the photograph, Weiner denied sending the photo, and stated that his account was "hacked." Thereafter, on June 6, 2010 Rep. Weiner announced that he indeed sent the photograph of him in his underwear, and that there may be more images of him that may surface Democratic leadership was really behind getting Weiner to resign.
A special election will be held in New York to replace Rep. Weiner's seat after his official announcement. However, due to New Your redistricting laws, the State of New York may be losing two congressional seats. Questions regarding Rep. Weiner's political future is uncertain--he does not have a law degree nor business degree.
In 2005 he ran unsuccessfully for New York's Mayoral office. Observers now feel that due to the current sexting scandal, Rep. Weiner has ruined his chances of running for the office of Mayor of New York in 2013.
Rep. Anthony Weiner is expected to officially announce his resignation statement today in New York, at approximately 2 p.m. EST.
