Our free country is losing the liberties and values that make it a free country, TSA announced a pilot program that has security agents asking Ameri-"CANS" to submit to a voluntary government background check before flying the not so friendly skies.
Government background check, I want to visit my cousin not have dinner at the Whitehouse! What happens when people refuse? Which I would do based on the innocent until proven guilty axiom that's been drilled into my head since the day I was born.
Personally it's not about hiding anything it's more about the embarrassment of the silly things I did when I was younger, arrogant, and bored. The fact of the matter is I really do not want a TSA security agent reading anything into my mistakes and judging me on misdeeds from a long, long time ago.
My prior bad acts were not seditious and in no way threaten our government or citizens and didn’t involve explosives. Is it really relevant to flying that I grew some mushrooms? No not the Shitake variety, the "Magic" variety which in our "Free Country" are illegal to possess and or grow.
In my defense in 1994 when this incident occurred it was not illegal to grow them just possess them, quite the quintessential oxymoron isn't it? Our system of crime and punishment is clear on this matter and the price which I paid in full is enough. The fines and fact that I sacrificed a chance to interview for my dream job at JPL should be sufficient restitution.
