The American presidential election this year has been nothing if not a digital affair.  Social media has played an ever increasing role in the race for the White House.

Republican candidate Mitt Romney appears to have been the subject of a so called Google Bomb however.  If you search for "completely wrong" using Google Images, you'll see what I mean, with the results returning lots of photos of Mr Romney.

How did this happen?  Well the photos are all photos from legitimate news stories where Romney has spoken about being completely wrong in some way.  The phrase itself originates from Romney's infamous 47% remark.

"Well, clearly in a campaign, with hundreds if not thousands of speeches and question-and-answer sessions, now and then you're going to say something that doesn't come out right," Romney said. "In this case, I said something that's just completely wrong."

A Google spokesman confirms that this is not an intentional “Google bomb.” The search results for “completely wrong” are the natural result of a flurry of recent news articles associating Romney with the phrase.

It does however represent a rather embarrassing situation for Romney, who will be keen to avoid similar Google bombs in the past for George Bush.
