"Joe the Plumber" Wins Republican Nomination for Ohio House Seat
On Tuesday night the Republican team mascot for 2008, Sam Wurzelbacher who gained fame as "Joe the Plumber" won his primary and will lead the Republican charge in Ohio's 9th Congressional district.
Mr. Wurzelbacher faces a very uphill battle running against 15 term Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur.
The race will likely draw national attention as other national conservative leaders jump at the chance to get some air time and campaign for Wurzelbacher. During the run up to the primary Herman Cain signed up and campaigned for the new Republican nominee.
It will be interesting to watch the solidly Democratic district react to the conservative rhetoric and celebrities that may enter this Ohio district. Whatever happens this race will have a spotlight on it until the November election.
Mr. Wurzelbacher may be in a for a rude awakening when competing against Marcy Kaptur and he realizes he is running in a race against a professional.
In 2010 Kaptur beat her Republican opponent by 18 points and in 2008 Kaptur beat her opponent by 48 points.
Kaptur won a tough primary battle against progressive leader and long term Congressman Dennis Kucinich.
Celebrity may mean Wurzelbacher gets to be interviewed and be on the local and national news, but celebrity will not win this election.
