Le Pen: France to Exit the Euro
French Candidate for President, Marine Le Pen, has trumpeted her desire to exit the Euro as one of the foundations of her election campaign. Le Pen is the leader of France's far-right National Front and hopes this position will augment her already strong position in the polls.
Le Pen wants all of Europe to abandon the Euro. She believes that the Euro has “asphyxiated our economies, killed our industries and choked our jobs.” She thinks it's the cause of France's debt crisis. In addition, she wants France to prepare a planned exit from the currency union.
“We need to anticipate the collapse of the Euro rather than suffer from the collapse of the euro.”
When confronted with the possible devaluation of France’s currency and paying back France's debt, Le Pen said that she would just print money. Current President Nicolas Sarkozy's party believes that economic chaos would follow a breakdown of the Euro currency.
However, recent polls have given Le Pen support by the people of between 16 and 21% for the presidential election, while Sarkozy's polling numbers are just 27%. There is a lot that happen between now and April, when the next election is due.
