Let's All Eat Cake
The wealthy, the corporatist--they are the ruling class and though they do not possess titles like Duke, or Prince, or Earl of Lancaster, they are every bit the royalty in American Society. Consider a row of Bentley's parading toward a $35,000 dollar a plate photo-op with the president and then consider the starvation, the homelessness and the ill-health of how many Americans.
There is such a divide today that we accept that every television appears to live in million dollar homes and commercials are geared toward spending as if we were not in an economic recession.
Consider also the unfairness of this situation. A woman parks her car and feeds a meter that is scheduled to expire in 30 minutes. The line in the market is long and by the time she reached her car some 40 minutes later she has a ticket. She is a single mother with two school age children and she works from 3:00 to 11:00 at a fast food place.
The parking ticket was for 55 dollars. She makes $ 7.20 an hour. It will take her a full day's pay seven hours of hard work to pay the ticket and something important will not be paid. Now watch the next scenario. A Mercedes pulls up in from of the store, the woman's driver double parks with the engine running....The police come by and inquire...the driver says the madame is running an errand, the policeman tickets the car. The ticket is $55 dollars.
The injustice is not in the fines imposed but in the capability for each of these people to pay for the crime. In one case it is 20% of her income. In the other case the percentage is too small to calculate.
