Mitt Romney Mormons Believe

Recently, Slate asked a powerful question of Mr. Mitt Romney, one that he is not likely to answer: "Where is Mitt Romney’s Faith?" The public is at a definite disadvantage, not knowing the right questions to ask, the kind that will dig below the surface. Mormons will not reveal certain truths because of the intense loyalty, strict obedience, and fear among the faithful.

In the LDS faith, prophets, or presidents of the church, are the mouthpieces of God. Prophets speak for God, and one can uncover political beliefs beginning with two founding fathers of Mormonism, Brigham Young and Joseph Smith:

Smith, Young, and many other prophets revealed to their followers that “The time will come when the destiny of the nation will hang upon a single thread. At that critical juncture, this people will step forth and save it from the threatened destruction.” Although no Mormon will tell, they envision Mitt Romney as the possible fulfillment of this prophesy.

Often referred to as the "White Horse Prophecy," the issue has been picked up by the media and debated, but most members still believe it true.Traditions die hard in the Mormon faith. The doctrine was last quoted in official Mormon publications in 1976.

Joseph Smith ran, unsuccessfully of course, for President of the United States in 1844. In doing so, he is said to have provided Mormon citizens with a candidate worth voting for.

Technically, if elected president, Romney would be obedient to the prophet, first and foremost. In essence, this means that the Prophet of the Mormon Church would have authority over a sitting U.S. President. Members of the Church would protest that they "believe in being subject to ... rulers" of countries, but all Mormons testify that ultimate authority rests in the hands of God. Mormons expect that Romney will follow the Prophet in all matters.

Mormons are Republican, despite a few wanderers, and will vote for Mitt Romney, regardless of politics. The Church is a-political for tax purposes, but anyone living in a Mormon community knows the reality that Mormons vote Republican. Having said this, Mormons would also jump party lines to vote for a member of the Church. The candidate being Mormon trumps all other issues.
