Mr. President, Put Up Your Dukes or Step Aside - Page 3
Their mantra — "YOU can't spend more money than you take in, so neither should government." Three problems with that argument.
1. You CAN spend more money than you take in. It's called CREDIT, but you have to make enough money to PAY YOUR CREDITORS!
2. The Government is not a typical family. Does a typical family have to build roads, repair bridges, send troops into battle and do all the things a responsible government does, the things you would MISS and BITCH ABOUT NOT HAVING if it were all to suddenly disappear? And finally,
3. As a typical family, YOU have to pay YOUR TAXES! GE didn't pay a DIME of federal income taxes. YOU try getting away with that, Tea Party Dupe!
And in their corporate boardrooms, the industrialist enemies of America sit and chuckle and count their money, laughing at these poor dupes, these idiots they have deluded. And it was so easy, they say to each other. All they had to do was blow the right dog whistles to make the sound that only white, uneducated, unsophisticated people can hear. Oh, they'd never ADMIT that they are racists, these dupes. They probably don't even THINK that they're racist. But when Fox News scolds you for having a "hip hop birthday party," the dog whistle says "nigger in the White House." That's what these people hear, sir! And there's nothing you can do about that.
Thanks to the Tea Party Dupes, the corporations are free to exploit loopholes, to get tax break after tax break, to pay their CEO's UNCHRISTLY salaries while their company stock tanks, and to charge YOU more for their product while they spend LESS for manufacturing because the manufacturing is done in India or China or some other place where they can pay pennies on the dollar without being bothered by those pesky unions and benefits and safe working conditions and child labor laws.
But you CAN stand up for the principles you ran on, Mr. President. And I'm afraid that with the current situation being what it is — with runaway unemployment, the debt-ceiling debacle, your failed attempt at providing America with a fair health care system, the downgrading of our nation's credit, the downgrading of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, the prospect of a double-dip recession, and now the stock market crashing around our ears... I hate to say it, sir, but I can only think of one way for you to be the kind of president I thought you could be and STILL think you could be.Continued on the next page
