November 2008 Mumbai Attacks: Pakistani Terrorist Ajmal Amir Kasab Hanged

Finally after 4 years of waiting the only terrorist caught alive in the November 2008 attacks on Mumbai- Ajmal Amir Kasab was hanged at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. The Hanging process was carried out in high secrecy and news of the hanging came after the process was complete.

In the interrogation's Kasab confessed that he was from Faridkot in Pakistan. Kasab also confessed that he received training from the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba.

He also said that Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi a.k.a. "Chacha", the senior commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, offered to pay his family Rs.150,000($2700) for his participation in the attacks. Also Kasab said that "Chacha" pledged to pay his family Rs.100,000($1800) after he becomes a martyr.

Hotel Taj under attack on November 2008Initially the Government of Pakistan kept on denying that Kasab was from Pakistan, but later they accepted the fact.

Kasab has been sentenced to death for attacking Mumbai, and he is held responsible for killing 166 people on 26 November 2008 along with nine other terrorists.

In the trials Ajmal Kasab was found guilty of in all 80 offenses, including waging war against the nation, which is punishable by the death penalty.

Ajmal Kasab was caught alive by Assistant sub-inspector Tukaram Omble who at the incident was armed only with a stick. Obmle held onto Kasab's AK-47 and helped in catching him alive. Before that Obmle was shot 5 times by the terrorist.

The 11 terrorists who coordinated the 2008 Mumbai attacks mainly targeted the Hotel Taj Mahal Palace, Hotel Oberoi Trident, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station, Leopold Cafe, Cama Hospital and the Nariman House Jewish community centre.

138 Indians including 17 NSG Commandos and Policemen and 28 Foreigners lost their lives in the accident. The foreigners included four Americans, three Germans, two Israeli-Americans, two Israelis, two Australians, two Canadians, two French, two Italians, one British-Cypriot, one Dutch, one Japanese, one Jordanian, one Malaysian, one Mauritian, one Mexican, one Singaporean and one Thai.

Indian Home Ministry said that Kasab's family and Pakistani Government was informed about the hanging; however the Government said that the body won't be handed over to Pakistan as they are consistently denying the facts that Kasab was a Pakistani.

Before being hanged, Kasab stated that he had no final wishes.
