NY-23 Race: Scozzafava Bows Out
The Republican Party decided that they were going to endorse a particular candidate in New York’s District 23 run for Congress, who did not enjoy the benefit of Republican voters support, Dede Scozzafava.
The RNC’s decision was unilateral. They didn’t hold a primary to see if there were any other contenders.
Another Republican, Doug Hoffman, decided that he wanted to exercise his democratic right to run for office. Seeming that the new contender’s principles and values were more in line with what the Republican voters wanted, his star started to rise. While Scozzafava received the endorsement of big names, so did the new contender.
The polls quickly indicated who the favorite was, and Scozzafava relinquished her candidacy.
Should this be a lesson to organized politics? Should we infer that the nation is watching and we are tired of politicians trying to impose their wills on the people?
