Ottawa’s Museum of Science and Technology Racy Exhibition Epitomizes Governments’ Wastefulness
The Occupy movement and the left clamor for more government involvement in society as the answer to our economic woes. They insist that government hike taxes on the one-percent; they demand that government spend more to create jobs and "stimulate" the economy. However, they ignore government's proven record of waste and ineffectiveness.
Meanwhile, governments-even some fiscal conservatives, to boot-judge their performance by growth in program spending.
Canada and the USA need governments that are forced yearly to set goals, and develop plans to reduce their size, and lower their total budgets. This is the only way to cut governments’ wasteful spending. That's why folks need to look beyond fancy liberal political rhetoric to embrace Tea Party's goals. The probability that tax-and-spend governments will stop wasting money is zero.
Many blatant examples of government extravagance exist in the USA and Canada. The Canadian Taxpayers Federation’s recent Teddy Waste Awards highlight a few examples of funds’ abuse by three government levels. Besides, it shows that once elected, governments will do as they choose, because it’s impossible for taxpayers to control them. Still, when we expose their ludicrous over spending, guilty politicians would have moved on and pocketed handsome pensions.
Canadian taxpayers fund generous and hefty pensions for ineffective politicians. Take Gilles Duceppe, former leader of Bloc Québécois, a federal political party with the sole aim to separate Quebec from Canada. He lost his seat in parliament and is collecting from Canadian taxpayers, an indexed pension of $140,765 yearly. His comrades whom the electorate rejected, also got cushy severance payments and pensions.
We can't see many wasteful government activities; however, some we see clearly. Canada's Science and Technology Museum in Ottawa is a perfect example of what happens when governments do not seek to shrink and cut their spending programs, incessantly. On May 17, the museum opened a graphic exhibition: “Sex: A Tell-All Exhibition.” The museum's original plan was to present its pornographic show to children 12 years and older.
