Palestine: Land For Peace Versus Freedom To Live On The Land
The International community seems to be ramping up its criticism of Israel. While Egyptian protesters march on the Israeli embassy Turkey and others join in once again to call Israel an apartheid state. Pundits seem to loose focus on Israel’s past or even current trials that they endure at the hands of others.
The goal for some appears to be on forcing Israel to accept Palestine as a state while they proclaiming them an occupying force. We can not forget the history of atrocities against the Jewish people in much the same manner we can’t forget 9/11. The war on terror intrinsically links us to the necessity of peace in the Middle East.
The Palestinians as any people group does need their own recognized state. The Jewish people need to be secure within their own borders. Since America, England and Europe pushed for the settlement of the Jewish state many negotiations and promises have been made and broken with the Palestinians.
Since day one the Palestinian goal has been to re-acquire the land they once lost. Years later that appears to still be their main goal. With the changing of lines, wars, growing settlements and multi-national interests in the region some form of negotiation towards peace is essential.
The international community needs to present and support a clear path to peace. Israel has been recognized as a state for a long time. The Palestinian Authority governs the Westbank and Gaza. The PA is under Palestinian control. Declaring the land they control as theirs should be a solid first step.
There is no land for peace negotiation when you declare the land they occupy and control as their own state. Israel is an established state while Palestinians are being allowed to occupy their land in hopes that they will set up a homeland for themselves.
