Pathways To War
There are dark days ahead of us my friends and I’m not just talking about the onset of winter! Nope, these are dark days and the warnings, according to some, are already there, that we are on a pathway to war. Now when I say we, I mean me, you and everyone else in what really is our global society, for we all will be affected. What kind of war is not certain, but it would be of epic proportions, think Afghanistan and Iraq combined and then quadruple it, then multiply that by two and you’ll be pretty much there.
Like any war, it wont have any single route cause, but a multitude of foundations, a dozen or more little quarrels between nations, political disagreements, coalition loose ends, boarder skirmishes and other such ingredients. However, but be in no doubt, a large number those ingredients are already in the pot and the temperature is rising.
Let me take you by the metaphorical hand as we explore a few of those possible ingredients, or rather flagstones that are already in place on the current pathway.

Let’s start with the economy, which seems a good place to start, there are few areas of the world untouched by the trouble global economy. Hardly an hour passes by here in Europe without more doom and gloom emanating from the news media about the state of the European economy, it’s stability or lack thereof. It has been headline news for months and months and the story shows little sign of resolution or even stabilising, nor has the turmoil regarding the euro currency. Many countries are not only in recession, but their populations are facing programmes of austerity the like of which, most, if not all have never known before.
The Greek Crisis is far from resolving, for months the country has been on the brink of collapse, the government has had to go cap in hand to the European Union’s big players – France, Germany, Italy for EU bailouts because it cant pay it’s bills. The result of such bailouts, has been the implementation of austerity packages striking hard at the very heart of Greek society - the ordinary citizens. One of the oldest nations on earth and the birthplace of democracy has seen months of civil unrest for months and it’s sovereign democracy whipped away by the powerhaus of Germany, EMF and IMF. They slammed the now former Prime Minster’s desire to let the people decide on a referendum, no referendum allowed and he forced to resign. The Greek 2012 budget unveiled on Friday doesn’t lessen the cuts and depth of austerity, it magnifies and increases them making the future is undeniably gloomy. Some experts are secretly warning that the Greek economy will last just until Christmas, when the country will effectively be bankrupt.
