Strike Action in South Africa

South Africa's teachers and nurses are on strike. I support the right to strike as a last resort when other avenues have failed, particularly in a society whose ruling class is fraught with corruption and also gives greater credence and value to celebrities and sport people.

To grossly undervalue the work of our teachers and nurses in the shaping of young minds and the caring of the sick, is absolute folly. Striking and calling for a just wage is an issue of justice and needs to be supported. But, and it's a BIG but, when teachers and nurses begin to intimidate, and even assault learners and patients, then the line is drawn and they lose the very solidarity I have with them. This kind of behavior can never be condoned and needs to be treated with the contempt it deserves.
